The social security status of some groups of people is not always entirely clear. It is not always easy to determine whether someone is self-employed or employed and therefore liable for social security contributions. Not clarifying this status is associated with risks. It is not uncommon for companies to have to make five-figure back payments plus late payment penalties for so-called bogus self-employed persons – supposedly self-employed persons who later turn out to be employees. In order to protect yourself from additional claims, the social security status should be clarified when taking up a new employment relationship.
